If you have any interest in food, if you buy, cook, and eat food, - read this book. It's fascinating, useful, and at points, had me laughing out loud.
Kingsolver and her family chronicle their journey to becoming "locavores" - trying to eat only food grown/raised within 100 miles of their home in rural Virginia. Kingsolver is the primary writer, and the chapters are interspersed with recipes and reflections from her 19-year old daughter and with fact-filled vignettes from her husband. From the joys of asparagus to the surprisingly amusing habits of poultry to the canning of tomatoes, accompanying the Kingsolver family through their year of local food is a journey worth taking.
